Dancing In The Light

“In your light I learn how to love.
In your beauty, how to make poems.
You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you,
but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”

Rumi

Graceful Landing

“The artist is a receptacle for the emotions
that come from all over the place:
from the sky, from the earth,
from a scrap of paper,
from a passing shape,
from a spider’s web.”

Pablo Picasso

This graceful landing was hard won for that little spider. While doing my best as a photographer to preserve the experience of standing on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the Pacific Ocean with the Tillamook Lighthouse out at sea, and capturing the beautiful sunset… it was dancing in the wind, dangling several feet from a safe resting place, but slowly gaining web, getting closer and closer to the branch. I kept a close eye on it and was honored to bring to life it’s success in the final rays of day.

Gentle Lap

“Nothing in the world is more
flexible and yielding than water.
Yet when it attacks the firm and the strong,
none can withstand it,
because they have no way to change it.
So the flexible overcome the adamant,
the yielding overcome the forceful.
Everyone knows this, but no one can do it.”

Lao Tzu

Second Sight

“Everyone and everything that
shows up in our life is a reflection
of something that is happening inside of us.”
Alan Cohen

Silver Lining

“We all walk in the dark and each of us must
learn to turn on his or her own light.”
Earl Nightingale

Aquatic Greetings

At the Seattle Aquarium sometimes feel forced, especially on a busy Saturday with small children all vying for the attention of the many creatures within the tanks, but this visit produced some intimate moments for myself and my daughter. The most memorable being while camera in one hand, I displayed with the other how the sea anemone will greet your finger… all you have to do is hold it close. The squeal of delight when one sticky polyp after another began investigating her finger, was priceless!

The ability to see all the legs of a starfish was also a special treat…

With the back-lighting bringing to life the intimidating urchins and ‘giant green’ anemones…

We didn’t miss the timid, ‘hello’ from a ‘fuzzy’ crab and spotted fish…

Or the salmon passing through the ladder…

Overall, we got to meet some amazing beings and the photos barely capture the experience.
